HISTORY

	Dancers Studio, Inc. was formed in 1991 as an organization to support dance from within the community by offering quality dance technique classes taught by professionally trained teachers with an emphasis on ballet and modern dance. Additions to our curriculum include “special needs” classes; these classes were designed for children with physical and mental impairments. Scholarships are offered to students demonstrating financial need. Scholarships generally run about $15,000 per season. Dancers Studio, Inc. trains students in a manner that prepares them to continue in dance at the university level and/or in a professional dance company. Students of Dancers Studio, Inc. are well prepared for auditions at these levels.
	Dancers Studio, Inc. offers performing opportunities to students and professional dancers. Students are encouraged to participate in “The Nutcracker” that is presented as the school recital each December (prior to 2006 this had been performed on alternating years). This is an important opportunity for young dancers and audience members alike to experience a complete ballet and develop an understanding of the dance world. Students also have the opportunity to participate in a dance camp each summer, culminating in an informal performance at the Studio.
	Dancers, Inc. is the resident company of Dancers Studio, Inc. The company offers performance opportunities to student and professional dancers. Professional dancers come from varied dance backgrounds that blend to give the Dancers, Inc. Company its unique style. The company has student members and apprentices. Potential company members and apprentices need not study at Dancers Studio, Inc. to audition for the company. Guest dancers and choreographers work with the company on a regular basis. The company performs at community events, in school lecture-demonstrations, as guest performers for other arts organizations, and in concerts produced by Dancers Studio, Inc. Repertoire includes classical and contemporary ballet, modern dance, and jazz.
	Alma Wiley and Kristen Bridgeman are currently the Co-Directors of Dancers Studio, Inc. and Dancers, Inc.

COMPANY

As part of our mission, Dancers Studio, Inc. provides performance opportunities for professional and student dancers in the Columbus, Indiana area through the maintenance of a resident dance company.

This company usually performs a spring concert as well as guest dance opportunities as they arise in the community and in other areas of the region. Even though The Nutcracker serves as a recital for members of our dance school, the company also performs rolls to complete the show. The Company consists of upper level dancers, area dancers, as well as some of our teaching staff. Guest dancers and choreographers are hired on an as needed basis.
